Hey all, guess what!!!! Warner Bros. is planning on a sequel to Batman Begins and Superman Returns!!! I know, can you believe it?!?!?
Good Lord, Batman Begins makes $205 million domestically and the first Batman franchise had four films. Warner Bros. has spent close to, if not more than $200 million on the production budget of Superman Returns and the first franchise had four films. Are we really expected to think that there aren’t going to be sequels?
Whatever the case, Variety is reporting that both films will have sequels and Batman and Superman sequels could make their debut in 2008 and 2009, respectively with both helmers, Christopher Nolan and Bryan Singer, in line to return.
On top of that, Warner Bros. has options on Batman Begins star Christian Bale and Superman Returns star Brandon Routh.
There is not a start date for the Batman sequel or the Superman sequel, but it was reported that Christopher Nolan’s brother, Jonathan Nolan, will be penning the screenplay for the Untitled Batman Begins Project.
The biggest news out of this story has to be that Singer is expected to direct a Superman sequel soon after he finishes with Warner’s remake of sci-fi thriller Logan’s Run, which he’s expected to begin production on possibly by the end of this year. I say possibly because Singer is also set to direct The Mayor of Castro Street, which is in development at Warner Bros.
So, what did we learn? Obvious is as obvious does.
