Variety is reporting that Samuel L. Jackson and director Irwin Winkler are teaming for the Iraqi wartime drama Home of the Brave.
Mark Friedman penned the script which revolves around three soldiers who struggle to readjust to normal life after returning home from a lengthy tour in Iraq. Jackson will play a doctor who tries to resume his routine, only to find himself unraveling.
Jackson is not the only big name star in this feature with Jessica Biel, Christina Ricci and Brian Presley already on board and Curtis “50 Cent” Johnson is in final negotiations.
Winkler was quoted as telling Variety “It’s a subject we read about but certainly haven’t dramatized very much… There is a reluctance on the part of the studios to market and distribute this kind of film because it’s drama, it’s original and it’s not a remake.”
The idea for the film has been around for about two years but the studios weren’t exactly forthcoming with the money to finance the pic, now that Winkler’s production company and Emmett/Furla Films are behind the picture Winkler is confident that the pic will nab a distributor.
On a side note, this is the second time that Jackson and Ricci will have worked together recently as the two star in the upcoming feature Black Snake Moan due out later this year.
