Considering Keanu Reeves has already used up his surfer cop bit after Point Break it seems Millennium Films, Blue Collar Films and Eclectic Pictures have snagged the best thing for their feature adaptation of Don Winslow’s novel The Death and Life of Bobby Z.
The film will star Paul Walker as a first-rate loser who dodges prison by making a deal with the DEA that requires he pose as a legendary surfer-drug dealer, Bobby Z, in a hostage switch with a Mexican drug lord. When the ruse backfires, the fake Bobby Z goes on the run, with the 6-year-old son of the real Bobby Z in tow.
The film will be directed by Doug Aarniokoski and is expected to begin lensing in September.
