French site Film Deculte has just dropped a bit of news Da Vinci and Marceau fans alike will enjoy as they announce that Sophie Marceau is set to take on the role of Sophie Neveu in Ron Howard’s The Da Vinci Code, based on the widely popular novel by Dan Brown.
Neveu is a central character along with Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) in a story in which a murder in the Louvre and clues in Da Vinci paintings lead to the discovery of a religious mystery protected by a secret society for two thousand years — which could shake the foundations of Christianity.
Marceau seems like a highly logical choice, but it is in contradiction to a report from the Boston Herald back in November ’04 in which Before Sunset star Julie Delpy was rumored to have the role.
We have not yet added either actress to the cast, but once official word is released we will be sure to let you know.
