The soon to be released Universal Pictures film In Good Company will not be a movie to overlook come nominee time as it could bring in a possible Best Actor, Supporting Actor or screenplay nomination.
The Academy may give another nomination to previously nominated screenwriter Paul Weitz. Weitz wonderfully crafts this tale of modern corporate life, with the struggle of a young man to find himself and an older man’s attempt to adjust to a changing world. Weitz is also responsible for directing the film.
A real standout in the film is Topher Grace and even he seems to not want to admit it. A great moment in Ocean’s Twelve is when Brad Pitt encounters a crazed Topher Grace who has just trashed one of Pitt’s hotel rooms. During his rambling dialogue, Grace says to Pitt, “I called in that Dennis Quaid movie.”
Was it a self-effacing joke, or a clever way to get people to notice his best performance so far? Whichever it was, you may be surprised by how good Grace is in the film, and he may get himself a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his work.
Quaid is equally good, but with a very deep Best Actor pool this year, he could be left out of the running.
In Good Company opens in NY/LA on December 29, 2004, and nationwide January 14th and is definitely worth a watch for you Oscar Oracle predictors.
