Graphic Novel, ‘Vendetta,’ Gets a Helmer

Variety reports today that Matrix trilogy assistant director, James McTeigue is in final negotiations to helm the feature film adaptation of the graphic novel V for Vendetta.

Matrix directors Larry and Andy Wachowski were intent on adapting the novel before they got wrapped up in the whole trilogy thing and are now set to produce the pic along with Joel Silver.

The story takes place in an alternate future in which Germany wins WWII and Great Britain becomes a fascist state. A terrorist freedom fighter known only as “V” begins a violent guerilla campaign to destroy those who’ve succumbed to totalitarianism, and recruits a young woman he’s rescued from the secret police to join him.

McTeigue has been climing the directorial ladder and just finished his role as first assistant director on Star Wars — Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
