Diane English has written a script and will make her directorial debut on the remake of the 1939 comedy The Women. Have I ever heard of this? No, but it is newsworthy considering Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Sandra Bullock and Ashley Judd are in negotiations to star with Uma “The Bride” Thurman eyeing the role as well.
Apparently word on who has been cast will be in by the week’s end as shooting is expected to begin in February.
As for the film, Meg Ryan had originally eyed this film as a film she would produce and star in alongside Julia ROberts for director James L. Brooks. Now it looks as if Bening will play the wronged woman, while Thurman would take the part of the husband-stealer. Ryan, Bullock and Judd will play characters that are composites of some in the original. If you ask me the whole thing sounds like Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood 2.
New Line Cinema is set to distribute the film domestically.
