I am sure many of you have heard all the controversy around Academy screeners after last year’s round about way of solving the issue saying “no screeners” then “yes screeners”. Well a solution may have been reached as support is building for a plan under which each of the 6,000 Academy members would be given a Dolby DVD player that would play specially encrypted DVD screeners.
Members will receive a DVD player that has a built-in digital key to unlock the Cinea-encrypted discs, and each disc will identify the person who is the recipient. Disc will record the date, time and, crucially, the machine on which it was played and will not be playable on standard DVD players.
