This news excited me and let me down a bit as it was announced that John Woo will be helming the film adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six for Paramount Pictures, which is by far one of Clancy’s best novels to date.
The upsetting thing is that Woo seems to focus more on the glitz and glam of blowing things up rather than turning out decent films, on the flip side this is not a Jack Ryan story so the thought of Ben Affleck returning to team-up with Woo after the Paycheck debacle is unlikely.
Six is centered around Clancy’s other longtime character John Clark, a member of the CIA who is joining with several colleagues to leave the CIA and create an England-based multinational org designed to battle terrorism. There couldn’t be a better time for this movie and if they can translate the pages to film this could be a big hit.
Paramount has also bought the rights to Clancy’s “Red Rabbit” and “Without Remorse” novels based on the Jack Ryan and John Clark characters respectively.
