SUPERMAN Talk, are the Facts Straight Yet?

It has been awhile since some good rumors/news came out since Bryan Singer signed on for directorial duties on the upcoming Superman flick over at Warner Bros., but now a couple of sources come together with some news about past rumors and some new bits.

First off IESB got a chance to talk with Passion of the Christ star James Caviezel about his rumored involvement with the film as he was said to be the frontrunner for the Man of Steel while Angels director McG was attached, but since the Mc was dropped those rumors stopped.

“There has been no direct talks with Bryan Singer, all talks have been through mediators,” Caviezel told the IESB. As in whether or not he would like to take on the challenge of Superman, “it appeals to me a great deal, I haven’t seen the script but I do like to play iconic characters, I see the role of Superman as a big responsibility and see it almost as a calling,” said Caviezel.

Of course it is appealling, what franchise role wouldn’t be? But apparently JC’s chance is slim to none as Bryan Singer sat down with one of Ain’t It Cool News‘ stringers and said the role will be filled by an unknown.

When asked, “Is there any truth to the reports that you have a deadline to lock in the main cast or Warner Bros. will step in a do it for you?”

Singer’s response was, “No, that’s absurd. I read that too and think it’s just bizarre about James Caviezel, who’s a wonderful actor. But, no, I’m committed to casting an unknown.”

And what about that title Superman Returns?

“That’s strictly a working title. But it is a return story. It puts the first films in a kind of vague history. So what it doesn’t do is tread over the 1978 Richard Donner film, it doesn’t tread over ‘Smallville.’ It elaborates on the existence of Superman in the world in a history. He’s out of the culture and then he returns.”
