Buena Vista Home Entertainment has officially announced the December 21st release date for their medievel summer release King Arthur on DVD and with it comes confirmed news that there will be a Director’s Cut of the film available at the same time, which should make several fans very happy.
Back on July 16th we quoted an Entertainment Weekly article discussing the manner in which the film was cut to make it more of a family friendly film rather than a medievel blood bath, including details on what was left on the cutting room floor.
With the press release issued by Buena Vista word comes that there will be an “Unrated” Director’s Cut, but today I got my MPAA Bulletin, which confirms that the release is rated R for sequences of strong war violence.
While there are no specific details on how much material will be put back into the film you can get a taste of what was missed by reading this article here.
As for the other features both the PG-13 and the R-rated versions will include deleted scenes with optional director commentary; Alternate Ending with optional director commentary; Blood On The Land: Forging King Arthur making-of-the-epic; Round Table Video Commentary with cast and filmmakers; director commentary; Knight Vision pop-up trivia; King Arthur Xbox playable video game demo, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s personal photo gallery.
Stay tuned as we hope to have box art and purchasing details soon.
