Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will join George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, and the rest of the all-star ensemble cast of Ocean’s Eleven in its much-anticipated sequel, Ocean’s Twelve, scheduled to begin production this April for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh and produced by Jerry Weintraub in association with Section Eight. The screenplay is by George Nolfi.
Ocean’s Twelve reunites the original cast in another crime caper, this time set in Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Vincent Cassel, Elliott Gould, Eddie Jemison, and Carl Reiner also star. Ocean’s Twelve will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.
“Catherine is just terrific — one of those stars who comes along once in a long while,” said Weintraub. “It’s not easy to find an actress who can measure up to the star power of this cast, but Catherine will not only hold her own, she’ll add a lot to the movie. I’ve wanted to work with her forever, and couldn’t be happier to welcome her.”
Said Jeff Robinov, President, Production, Warner Bros. Pictures, “Catherine has demonstrated her ability to handle humor as gracefully as she does drama; she will be the perfect addition to our already terrific cast on this movie. We’re extremely happy to be working with the tremendous team involved with this picture.”
Zeta-Jones was honored with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in last year’s hit adaptation of the Broadway musical Chicago, which also earned her a Golden Globe nomination and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In an earlier collaboration with Steven Soderbergh, Zeta-Jones earned another Golden Globe nomination and shared a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture for her work in Traffic. Zeta-Jones previously starred with Ocean’s Twelve castmates George Clooney in Intolerable Cruelty and Julia Roberts in America’s Sweethearts. She first came to worldwide audience attention with her role opposite Antonio Banderas in The Mask of Zorro, which she followed with a starring role opposite Sean Connery in Entrapment. Zeta-Jones will be seen later this year opposite Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg’s Terminal.
