Flick Pics for the 2003 Holiday Season

Okay, so it goes without saying that Return of the King is going to be the top draw for the holidays, but what else is out there?

Whether you are looking for a family flick, drama, action or comedy you do have options.

Starting with the family option you have a couple of titles to look at such as Universal’s latest take on Peter Pan, Disney’s little talked about Young Black Stallion, and Cheaper by the Dozen starring Steve Martin.

The most likely to take the big draw at the box-office will be Peter Pan as newcomer Jeremy Sumpter brings Pan back to life against the vile Captain Hook (Jason Isaacs). Through CGI and green screening the world of Never Never Land was so extravagant and colorful as Pan and his pals take flight.

With that said there is a movie that is a must not miss called Big Fish, which is not exactly a family flick but it is not just a Drama. Director Tim Burton brings his own brand of directing to the screen with a new look at new life as his inimitable imagination goes on a journey that delves deep into a fabled relationship between a father and his son in a movie for everyone.

Okay so family isn’t what you are looking for, well then let’s take a look at some drama. If you haven’t seen them the Golden Globe nominations were announced just a short time ago and the flick leading the way was Cold Mountain, which may be your way to go to satisfy your dramatic needs as it snagged a leading eight nominations, but that is not all there is…

Other options include House of Sand and Fog, Mona Lisa Smile and The Company (limited release). Mona Lisa Smile was released on December 19th and has received somewhat negative reviews, but it isn’t all that bad and may lift your spirits a touch but remember, this is drama, and if you are looking to liven those spirits then scroll right back up to those family flicks or you could check out House of Sand and Fog.

First time director Vadim Perelman has adapted the highly acclaimed novel by Andre Dubus III and put together a stellar cast including Jennifer Connelly and Sir Ben Kingsley to tell a tale exposing the unsettling truth that it is sometimes our hopes and not our hatreds that drive us to ruin, in a devastating exploration of the American Dream gone terribly awry.

So you aren’t interested in family films and you consider those dramas as “chick flicks”, well let’s see what can get the action movie goer interested…

Not much action really graces our holiday season except for the already mention Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, but there is one flick coming that may get your heart racing, Paycheck, starring Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman, and Aaron Eckhart.

Written by the writer of Minority Report, Paycheck is about world famous genius Michael Jennings (Ben Affleck), who does specialised projects for high-tech corporations. Once a job is complete, his memory is erased so as not to divulge any company secrets, but after hsi last job, instead of a big paycheck, he is given an envelope full of random objects and told that he has agreed to forfeit all payment. YIKES!!

I guess this the time where we see if Gigli was just a fluke and Ben can actually pull off a movie of his own or if he will be the anchor weighing any production he’s involved in down.

We won’t have to wait long to find out but if you would like to learn more about any of the mentioned films, and a couple others, just click on the links below and you will be whoosed away to view pictures, trailers, and to read more.

Happy Holidays, enjoy!
