You used to be able to find a copy of the out-of-print “Scarface” DVD floating around on eBay for up to $50.00. Trust me I tried to get one for cheaper.

Now you can go there by clicking here, and you will see the prices are way down but the same people are trying to sell the “Scarface DVD Sealed RARE OOP” but the prices aren’t climbing like they used to. Why not?

Well, to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of one of the greatest films of all time, Universal Studios Home Video lifts the moratorium and proudly presents the “Scarface Two-Disc Anniversary Edition” and “Scarface Deluxe Gift Set,” rolling out on DVD on September 30, 2003. Brian DePalma’s iconic film offers more explosive sights and sounds than ever, thanks to digital picture remastering and heart-stopping DTS 5.1 Digital sound. In addition to providing in-depth features on the filmmaking process, the bonus materials for the DVD include “Def Jam Presents: Origins of a Hip-Hop Classic,” a 20 minute documentary featuring interviews with today’s biggest hip-hop artists. Considered one of Hollywood’s greatest underworld masterpieces, “Scarface” features memorable and powerful performances from Oscar(R)-winner Al Pacino and co-stars Academy Award(R)- nominees Michelle Pfeiffer (“White Oleander,” “I Am Sam”), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (“The Color of Money,” “The Perfect Storm”), Robert Loggia (“Jagged Edge,” “Lost Highway”), and Steven Bauer (“Traffic”). Inspired by the 1932 classic of the same name, which is included in the “Scarface Deluxe Gift Set,” the film, written by Academy Award(R)-winner Oliver Stone, was brought to the screen by Oscar(R)-nominated producer Martin Bregman, who also worked on such Pacino classics as “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Serpico,” “Sea of Love” and “Carlito’s Way.” The “Scarface Two-Disc Anniversary Edition” DVD is priced at $26.98 S.R.P., while the “Scarface Deluxe Gift Set” is priced at $59.98 S.R.P.

DVD Mobbed With Special Features

The “Scarface Two-Disc Anniversary Edition” and “Deluxe Gift Set” contain some explosive, never-before-seen bonus features including an original 20 minute documentary, “Def Jam Presents: Origins of a Hip-Hop Classic,” packed with interviews from today’s biggest hip-hop artists, P Diddy, Snoop Dog, Eve and the rapper Scarface, on how this classic film has influenced their lives and music.

In “Scarface: The Rebirth,” actor Al Pacino, director Brian DePalma, producer Martin Bregman, and screenwriter Oliver Stone examine the history of “Scarface,” from the original 1932 classic to the shooting script. The “Scarface: Creating” feature offers a fascinating look at the controversial making of “Scarface” and the triumphs and struggles experienced by its filmmakers, including the filming of the unforgettable chainsaw scene, location changes, the producer’s battles to gain an “R” rating and more. The “Scarface: TV Version Montage” offers fans a revealing and hilarious montage of film clips that compare and contrast the theatrical release to the network version of “Scarface.” The DVD will also include never-before-seen deleted scenes.

Exclusively for buyers of the gift set, an additional disc containing the original 1932 version of “Scarface” — in its DVD debut — will be included. The “Scarface Deluxe Gift Set” will be uniquely packaged, “Scarface-style,” and will contain a striking set of rare collectible lobby cards and a “Tony Montana”- monogrammed money clip.

Multi-Million Dollar Marketing and Publicity Support

Universal Studios Home Video will support the release of the “Scarface” DVD with a major national publicity campaign, including numerous large-scale events and a multi-million dollar advertising campaign on network and local television, radio, print and internet.

Scarface Inspired Music

In addition to the bonus material “Def Jam Presents: Origins of a Hip Hop Classic,” Def Jam Music Group is prepared to release “Def Jam Recordings Presents Music Inspired By Scarface.” The disc, set for release on September 16th, features hip-hop hits ranging from Grand Master Flash to Jay-Z to Notorious B.I.G.

In Scarface Al Pacino gives an unforgettable performance as Tony Montana, one of the most ruthless gangsters ever depicted on film, in this gripping crime epic inspired by the 1932 classic of the same title. Directed by hit-maker Brian DePalma and produced by Martin Bregman who brought the Godfather legends to the screen, “Scarface” follows the violent career of Tony Montana (Pacino), a ruthless Cuban refugee who blasts his way to the top of Miami’s drug underworld, attaining wealth and power beyond his wildest dreams. His rags-to- riches ascent is marked by memorable moments, including a scene in which the cocky Montana risks his neck to propose to Elvira (Michelle Pfeiffer), the girlfriend of murderous drug kingpin Frank Lopez (Robert Loggia). Only in the film’s devastating finale does Montana come to grips with the awful price of his lavish empire.

With its intense screenplay by Academy Award(R)-winner Oliver Stone, driving music score by Giorgio Moroder, and superb insights into Miami’s lifestyle, “Scarface” lays bare the sordid power of the American drug scene.
