Adapted from a short story by Daphne du Maurier (Rebecca, The Birds), Don’t Look Now starred Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie as a married couple still traumatized by the death of their young daughter who move to Venice for work and wind up meeting a clairvoyant who claims their daughter is warning them of danger from the afterlife. Although the gothic thriller was not a runaway success during Paramount’s initial release, it later became acknowledged as one of the great horror masterpieces of the era, renowned for its innovative non-linear editing, shock ending and a sex scene between the stars that is still debated as unsimulated to this day.
Right now no screenwriter or director is attached, although several studios are said to be interested in backing a remake. Meanwhile, the original Don’t Look Now recently received a new documentary-laden Blu-ray release from The Criterion Collection in February.
