Currently in production in Atlanta, Paramount Pictures’ upcoming horror franchise sequel Rings aims to continue the story started in Gore Verbinski’s The Ring. Although readers should be aware of potential spoilers below, ShockTillYouDrop.com has today learned that one key character from the franchise will be back for the new film.
Aidan Keller, played by David Dorfman in both previous chapters, was the son of Naomi Watts’ Rachel Keller and is said to now tie into the plot of the new film, appearing as an adult. There’s no word yet, however, on whether or not Dorfman might reprise the role himself.
Rings stars Alex Roe as Holt, a young man who begins to become distant from his girlfriend (Matilda Lutz) after watching the infamous deadly videotape the series is known for.
Released in 2002, The Ring was an English-language remake of Hideo Nakata’s 1998 supernatural thriller, Ringu, which told the story of a videotape of ghostly imagery that causes anyone who watches it to die seven days later. Ringu was followed by three Japanese sequels, while the Verbinski version received its own 2005 sequel directed by Nakata, titled The Ring Two.
Gutierrez, best known for helming Before the Fall, is directing Rings, with Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman rewriting the sequel draft by David Loucka. It is set for a release on November 13, 2015.
Aimee Teegarden also stars in Rings, which is set for a November 13 release.
