Brian Kirk (“Game of Thrones”) will direct from a script by David Guggenheim (Safe House), with Ridley Scott and Simon Kinberg producing. Narco Sub was at one time in development with Scott’s late brother Tony at the helm, with both Doug Liman and Antoine Fuqua at one time attached as well.
Neeson is in negotiations to play a disgraced American naval officer who is forced by an Ecuadorian drug lord to navigate a submarine filled to-the-brim with cocaine past the U.S. Coast Guard. A dueling narco-sub project titled Hyperbaric was in development as of last year with Roger Spottiswood attached to direct.
Kirk has long been eyed as a potential blockbuster feature director, at one time attached to direct Thor: The Dark World before fellow “Thrones” alum Alan Taylor took over. Kirk was also developing the Keanu Reeves sci-fi vehicle Passengers for years before filmmaker Morten Tyldum and star Chris Pratt took their places.
Neeson will next be seen in Ted 2, the fantasy film A Monster Calls and is currently shooting Martin Scorsese’s Silence.
