Page Six is reporting that is no longer starring as J.R. Ewing in 20th Century Fox’s big screen adaptation of Dallas, to be directed by Betty Thomas.
While Page Six didn’t get a confirmation from the studio, they say that he was “let go about two weeks ago. He had the role of J.R. Ewing taken from him and given to Ben Stiller.” A rep for Stiller denies the actor accepted or was offered the part, however.
A friend of Travolta apparently added, “He is not doing the movie. They’ve gone a different direction than was originally intended.”
The film will be based on the popular CBS drama that ran from 1978 to 1991.
