Welcome to ComingSoon.net’s look at all the major releases hitting this week on Blu-ray and DVD! Check out the gallery viewer below for a look at all the major new releases, TV season sets and catalogue titles.
New releases this week begin with David Fincher’s latest, Gone Girl, based on the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn (who also adapted her own book into the screenplay) and starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Also arriving from recent theatrical runs are Scott Frank gritty Fin de siècle thriller A Walk Among the Tombstones, the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side, starring Andre Benjamin, the horror thriller Jessabelle, and Love is Strange, starring John Lithgow and Alfred Molina and written and directed by Ira Sachs.
Debuting on Blu-ray and DVD this week is The Scorpion King 4: Quest For Power, the seventh film overall in the series that launched in 1999 with Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy.
Speaking of late ’90s blockbusters, Scream Factory today turns their attention to the 2000 sci-fi thriller Supernova, starring Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s James Spader. Over at Shout! Factory, proper, we’ve got a single disc release of one of Werner Herzog’s most important works, Fitzcarraldo, which was the subject of Les Blank’s intense filmmaking documentary Burden of Dreams.
The Criterion Collection, meanwhile, serves up the first-ever Blu-ray of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Douglas Sirk-inspired 1972 melodrama The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant.
On the television front, HBO delivers Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Fifth Season, collecting the final eight episodes of the hit Prohibition-era drama.
