It’s hard to make a movie in secret these days, but somehow Sony Pictures has managed to do just that with the new young adult romantic drama MoonQuake Lake, the latest movie from 22 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, which stars real-life partners Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis along with Rihanna.
The official site for the movie went online earlier today along with the first teaser for the sci-fi tinged drama which you can watch below.
Okay, you’re probably thinking, “There’s no way that’s a real movie,” and in this case, you actually would be right.
SPOILER AHEAD!
This trailer is actually one of the jokes in Will Gluck’s upcoming musical Annie, which opens on Friday, December 19. In the movie, Jamie Foxx’s billionaire Will Stacks takes Qhvenzhane Wallis’ Annie and her friends to a movie premiere, and MoonQuake Lake is the fake movie within a movie that Gluck created for them to watch.
Gluck previously directed Kunis and Justin Timberlake in his comedy Friends with Benefits and Kunis probably convinced her partner Kutcher (who appeared in the similar Ivan Reitman comedy No Strings Attached earlier that year) to play along. We have no idea how they convinced Rihanna to appear in the fake trailer or to get Sia and Beck to write the fake song for the website, but there ya go.
There’s actually another cameo by a Will Gluck regular in Annie but we’ll let you figure that one out for yourself.
