The celebration that took place on Robert Downey Jr.’s 60th birthday might have given away the look of Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The Oppenheimer actor made waves when he confirmed his return to the MCU five years after his prolonged stint as Iron Man came to an end. Since then, Marvel has shared little to no detail about how Downey Jr.’s re-introduction as the villainous Victor Von Doom will take place. Nevertheless, fans may have received their first update on the character now, in the form of his theatrical appearance.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom to have curly hair in Avengers: Doomsday?
On the occasion of his latest birthday bash, Robert Downey Jr. shared a Doctor Doom-inspired invite for his guests. The art showcased the actor standing on top of a caravan, sporting a green military-style suit. He also donned a purple cape and an Iron Man-esque mask while wielding symbols in both his hands that seemingly represented magic and science. However, the most notable highlight of the invite was Robert Downey Jr.’s curly hair, which potentially gave away Doctor Doom’s possible look in Avengers 5.
Incidentally, the Academy Award winner was carrying the same hairstyle at his party, as per @NexusPointNews. As such, many believe that Downey Jr.’s rendition of Victor Von Doom could have a similar look in Avengers: Doomsday, considering that production on the project is already underway. Regardless, neither Marvel nor Downey Jr. have shared any official word regarding the topic as of yet.
Fans react to potential Doctor Doom look for Avengers: Doomsday
While Robert Downey Jr.’s aforementioned look may not be how he looks while playing Doctor Doom on the big screen, fans have already poured in to share their opinion on the matter. One user praised Doom’s modern look, stating, “Fire. Can’t wait for more films to be made that aren’t tied down to source material,” on X (formerly Twitter).
On the other hand, renowned internet scooper @MyTimeToShineH was dismissive of Doctor Doom’s supposed appearance, noting, “This look?! God I hope not.” Another fan echoed the insider’s negative sentiments under his tweet, commenting, “This is literally the worst look I’ve ever seen on Doom. He has 25 better outfits.”
Meanwhile, @joearector highlighted the funny side of the story and compared Downey Jr.’s curvy locks to that of accredited filmmaker Taika Waititi, writing, “Really? Same energy.”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to come out in May 2026.
