Jonathan Majors has been tapped to lead an action movie from The First Purge director Gerard McMurray following the federal lawsuit hurled against him in 2023. The movie, however, was not a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) project. The announcement comes after all the actors confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday were revealed.
What is Jonathan Majors’ upcoming movie?
Majors is set to lead McMurray’s action movie, True Threat, which marks his second movie role following the lawsuit. It was announced in June that the actor will be starring in Martin Villeneuve’s revenge thriller Merciless, based on Frank Hannah’s screenplay.
Majors will be playing the titular Vernon Threat in True Threat, which will center on a father’s dangerous quest to avenge his murdered son.
“True Threat follows Special Forces operative ‘Vernon Threat’ (Majors) as he embarks on a relentless quest for justice after his teenage son is murdered by a Harlem gang known as The Apollo Kids,” the plot description reads, courtesy of Deadline. “Determined to take revenge, Threat infiltrates The Carter, a towering 20-story project building that serves as the gang’s stronghold, battling his way to the top floor to confront their leader and his former mentor, ‘Shallow.’”
The actor is best known for his portrayal of Kang the Conqueror in MCU’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as well as in the Disney+ series Loki. In 2023, however, Majors was fired by Marvel Studios after his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari filed a domestic violence lawsuit accusing him of assault and defamation. Jabbari then dropped the lawsuit in November of last year, putting an end to their legal battle.
In addition to his stint in the MCU, the actor has also starred in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, The Harder They Fall, Devotion, Creed III, Captive State, Gully, Jungleland, Da 5 Bloods, Lovecraft Country, and Magazine Dreams.
Other details about True Threat remain under wraps.
