Jason Momoa on Playing DCU’s Lobo: ‘I Asked Everybody To Call Me by My Character’s Name’

Jason Momoa is asking people on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow set to refer to him as Lobo.

Momoa has been cast as the DCU’s Lobo, with the character making his first appearance in 2026’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and will see Milly Alock play the titular superhero.

What did Jason Momoa say regarding being called Lobo on Supergirl’s set?

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Momoa confirmed that he’s about ”halfway” through filming his scenes for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

“It’s the first time I asked everybody to call me by my character’s name,” he said during an interview with Jack Back for the upcoming Minecraft movie. He then turned to Black and, in character, joked, “Lobo has to go take a deuce.”

Momoa further said, “I just think I’m the right person to play the role…If we’re going to typecast me in anything, let’s put me in Lobo. Motorcycles, smoking cigars, partying, dreadlocks.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirls’ mother.

The movie is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s DC Comics miniseries of the same name, which launched in 2021.

“Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but finds her life without meaning or purpose,” the solicitation for the series’ first issue reads. “Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released on June 26, 2026, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
