Josh Brolin‘s upcoming movie Weapons will be in theaters earlier than first announced as Warner Bros. has changed its release date.
The upcoming horror mystery is helmed by director Zach Cregger, who received widespread praise from critics and horror fans for his 2022 movie Barbarian. Along with Brolin, the cast of Weapons includes Julia Garner, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, and Alden Ehrenreich, among others.
Weapons’ release date moves up to 2025 from January 2026
As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Brolin’s movie Weapons has a new release date. The movie will now arrive in theaters earlier than expected after Warner Bros. made some changes to its release schedule.
Weapons, which was initially planned to open on January 11, 2026, will now be released on August 8, 2025.
Brolin is no stranger to genre movies. As well as playing Thanos in the MCU, the veteran Hollywood actor also starred as Cable for Marvel in Deadpool 2 and played DC’s Jonah Hex, among many other iconic roles. While talking to Collider in May 2024, Brolin shared his thoughts about the script for Weapons. He told the outlet, “It’s a really good script, first of all. He’s put together a really good cast. There’s a lot of really good people involved. This was one of the few times when I finally went, ‘Okay, let’s do this.’ I’m serious when I say I think it’s a really brilliant design of a script.”
He spoke to the outlet in October 2024 as well, when he disclosed that his daughter’s appreciation for Cregger’s work led him to sign Weapons. Brolin praised Cregger by referring to him as a “great filmmaker.”
In January 2025, Julia Garner also shared some details about the movie with Collider. She asserted that Weapons is slightly similar to Barbarian, but “not a proper horror movie.” She further shared, “It feels very Zach Cregger in that element. I’m excited for people to see it and hear their response.” According to reports, Cregger is also currently working on a reboot of the Resident Evil movies.
