Aaron Paul‘s new movie Ash has garnered positive scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, based on favorable critic reviews. The sci-fi thriller opens in theaters on March 21, 2025, and is helmed by director Flying Lotus. Other than the Breaking Bad star, the movie features Eiza González, Iko Uwais, Beulah Koale, and more.

Ash starring Aaron Paul is earning praise from critics for its mind-blowing visuals and the performance of its cast. The film follows the story of a woman who finds herself on a distant planet. She discovers that her crewmates have been murdered. This leads to an investigation, however, what transpires is a series of unpredictable events.
ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki seemed stunned by the visualization of the movie and wrote, “Ash is a visually resplendent film that is intoxicating to look at.” But, she noted that it “leaves its characters by the wayside.”
Mama’s Geeky‘s Tessa Smith applauded the science fiction elements of Ash and stated, “A trippy, psychological thriller that is infused with brilliant Science Fiction and psychedelic elements to deliver something unique and entertaining.”
Peter Debruge from Variety was also in awe of the visuals and explained the impact they left on him. He asserted, “The movie’s razor-sharp visuals leave scratch marks on the back of your eyeballs, and they’re liable to burst back into your consciousness in subsequent dreams.”
Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting referred to the movie as an “ultra-violent, familiar space survival horror video game in cinematic form.” She added, “It’s an immersive, experiential vibe movie that washes over you with its droning score that ramps up in intensity along with the chaos.”

Even before its release in theaters, Ash has achieved impressive ratings on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Based on the reviews given by critics, Ash has clocked 80 percent on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.
Furthermore, on Metacritic, the movie has scored 62 based on eight reviews, reflecting a ‘Generally Favorable’ reception.
