The Electric State Viewership Disappoints, Likely Won’t Enter Netflix All-Time Top 10

Netflix has released the viewership for The Electric State, and the numbers are disappointing.

What was The Electric State’s viewership?

Released on March 14, The Electric State debuted at No. 1 on the Global Top 10 with 25.2 million views in its opening weekend on the streamer. While that would be solid for most movies, The Electric State is a $320 million blockbuster from the directors of Avengers: Endgame. Those early numbers are not promising, especially if Netflix had plans to start a franchise.

With only 25.2 million views, The Electric State is on pace to miss Netflix’s Top 10 movies of all time. Red Notice still has the biggest debut for a Netflix original at 75.6 million views for the opening weekend. The Electric State’s opening weekend also comes in behind other Netflix hits, including The Adam Project (51.8 million), Back in Action (46.8 million), Don’t Look Up (46.6 million), Carry-On (42 million), The Gray Man (41.2 million), Damsel (35.3 million), Atlas (28.2 million), and A Family Affair (26.8 million).

The Electric State stars Millie Bobby Brown as Michelle, an orphaned teenager who believes her deceased brother is controlling a robot named Cosmo (Alan Tudyk). With the help of the smuggler Keats (Chris Pratt), Michelle embarks on a journey across the retro-futuristic United States to find her brother.

The Electric State also stars Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman. The voice cast features Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, and Jenny Slate.

The Electric State is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The sci-fi movie is based on the novel by Simon Stålenhag. The Electric State has garnered poor reviews, including a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 29 on Metacritic.
