Supergirl: Jason Momoa Talks DCU Lobo Casting After Playing Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU

Jason Momoa is ready for the world to embrace him as the DCU’s Lobo.

Momoa has been cast as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, an upcoming DCU movie that is being directed by Craig Gillespie. Momoa previously played Aquaman/Arthur Curry in the DCEU, with that character’s first appearance being in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

What did Jason Momoa say about playing Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow?

Appearing on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Momoa said he initially assumed that he was going to be playing Lobo in the DCEU.

“I have every Lobo comic,” he said. “He was my favorite. I thought I was going to be playing Lobo when Zack Snyder called me. Because it was Batman vs. Superman, and they needed to have a villain in there.”

Momoa said that he was “surprised” to learn that he was being cast as Aquaman. With Kimmel pointing out how similar he looks to Lobo, Momoa agreed, saying, “Rides a motorcycle, smokes cigars, loves Guinness. I mean, c’mon. Dreadlocks.”

Additionally, Momoa confirmed that he’s still filming scenes for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Production of the DCU film officially kicked off in January 2024 and the movie currently has a June 26, 2026, release date.

Along with Momoa, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s mother.

With the script coming from Ana Nogueira, the movie is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s DC miniseries of the same name, which was published in 2021 and 2022. The comic’s storyline sees Kara, who happens to be celebrating her 21st birthday, travel across the galaxy alongside Ruthye as they seek revenge for some wrongdoings caused by Krem of the Yellow Hills.
