A reported runtime for the current cut of James Gunn’s Superman has emerged online.
Superman will be released in United States theaters this coming July. The first feature film set within Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU will see David Corenswet play the titular Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane.
What is the reported runtime for James Gunn’s Superman?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Superman currently has a runtime of “roughly” 140 minutes.
Should the report be accurate, this still does not mean Superman will be exactly 2 hours and 20 minutes long. Given that it won’t hit cinemas for another four months, things could be changed, added, or edited down from then until now. It does, however, give DC fans a rough estimate of how long the movie will be.
Both the 1978 Richard Donner Superman movie starring Christopher Reeves and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which was released in 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, have a runtime of 143 minutes (the special edition of Donner’s movie is 151 minutes long), in comparison. Superman II had a 127-minute runtime (the Donner Cut was 116 minutes), while Superman III came in at 125 minutes and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace at 90 minutes.
The 2006 Superman Returns movie with Brandon Routh, meanwhile, was 154 minutes long, while the theatrical cut of Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was 152 minutes long.
In addition to Corenswet and Brosnahan, Gunn’s Superman stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spice/The Engineer, and Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard.
Superman will be released in United States theaters on July 11, 2025, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
