Outer Banks and Uglies star Chase Stokes will be working behind the camera for his feature directorial debut called I Told the Sunset About You.
The Outer Banks breakout star is set to explore another creative outlet beyond acting, with a film based on his original concept. The project will be produced by Monarch Media’s Steve Barnett, Alan Powell, and Vicky Patel.
What is I Told the Sunset About You about?
The coming-of-age drama, described as a “contemporary Bonnie and Clyde romantic thriller,” will center around the unlikely bond between a local waitress and a drifter, who will both go on an adventure together.
Per Deadline’s description, the film is “about a restless local waitress who is stuck in a monotonous routine until she meets Jameson, a quiet drifter passing through on his way to the Pacific coast. Their unlikely connection sparks a spontaneous journey westward, leading to unexpected gambles that transform their lives forever.”
Considerably still in the early years of his career, Stokes made a name for himself when he starred as John B. in Netflix’s teen drama Outer Banks. Apart from television, the actor also ventured into the movie realm, with starring roles in Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets, Uglies, and Marked Men: Rule + Shaw.
Stokes’ latest film credit is in action thriller Valiant One, in which he also served as a co-producer for Monarch Media in addition to starring.
“I’m very excited that the Monarch team has given me the opportunity to extend my love for filmmaking beyond being in front of the camera,” Stokes said in a statement (via Deadline)
He added, “It’s always been a goal to get in the director’s chair and tell stories from that perspective, and I’m excited to continue this partnership with Steve, Alan and Vicky in doing so. I want to continue to show my versatility in this industry, and I’m incredibly thankful that they saw my vision for this film and believed in me to bring it to life.”
