Daisy Ridley & Another Star Wars Actor To Lead Rom-Com The Last Resort

Star Wars sequel trilogy star Daisy Ridley has officially signed on to lead the upcoming romantic comedy movie titled The Last Resort, which is expected to take place in the Philippines. In addition, Ridley will also be joined by fellow franchise vet Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), who has been enlisted to play the movie’s male lead.

Ridley was most recently seen in the action thriller movie Cleaner, which hails from Casino Royale director Martin Campbell. Besides the upcoming rom-com, Ridley is currently attached to star in a few new projects, including Campbell’s next action thriller Dedication, and the historical war drama Women in the Castle. She is also set to reprise her role as Rey in the new Star Wars movie, which will see Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order after 15 years since the events of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

What is The Last Resort about?

“The film follows Brooke (Ridley), who is determined to prove herself worthy of running her father’s hotel empire. She travels to the Philippines to scout a new resort location,” reads the official synopsis. “There, she meets Ben (Ehrenreich), a charming expatriate pilot who helps her discover the beauty of the country—and a newfound sense of freedom. As love and duty collide, Brooke must choose between the life she’s built and the one she’s only just begun to love.”

The Last Resort will be directed by Donald Petrie from a screenplay written by Karen McCullah (10 Things I Hate About You). Petrie is also best known for his works on the popular romantic comedies like Miss Congeniality and How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. The film will be executive produced by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan, with Ernesto Sta. Maria. Jr., Raja Collins, Simon Heo, Akshay Mehta and Rick Dugdale serving as producers. Asia Pacific Films will be producing and financing the project, which is slated to start its production this April.
