Jenna Ortega recently opened up about being into the idea of reviving an iconic horror franchise starring a cast of tiny critters.
What did Jenna Ortega say about Gremlins 3?
During a recent interview with the star while at SXSW for a screening of her upcoming movie Death of a Unicorn, Ortega was asked if she had any favorite mythical creatures. After not being able to come up with one, Ortega mentioned that as a kid, she really liked the Gremlins franchise, before jokingly asking studios to call her for a new one.
“You know what I used to love as a kid? Gremlins,” Ortega said. “Would love…we should [remake it]. Gremlins 3? 4? Call me.”
The Gremlins franchise began in 1984, with the black comedy horror film directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus. The film was also executive produced by Steven Spielberg, and followed the story of a young man who receives a pet, Gizmo, who spawns more of its kind after getting wet.
A sequel to Gremlins, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, was released in 1990, and is often seen as a significantly more cartoonish and lighthearted movie, complete with various Gremlins that are more comedic in nature.
Should Ortega ever star in a Gremlins remake, it would add to her already sizable resume in the world of the horror genre. Ortega has previously starred in the Scream franchise, appeared in Ti West’s X, starred in the Beetlejuice sequel, and also currently stars in Netflix’s Wednesday.
