Shazam! actress Grace Caroline Currey has recently expressed her thoughts about playing Wonder Woman in the new DCU.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are in the process of steadily building a new universe and it is still unclear whether Gal Gadot, who previously portrayed Wonder Woman in the DCEU, will return to the role or who will replace her if she doesn’t.
‘That’d be wild,’ says Grace Caroline Currey on possibly becoming DCU’s Wonder Woman
Grace Caroline Currey recently addressed the fan castings of her as the new Wonder Woman in the DCU.
While attending the San Diego Comic-Con: The Cruise, Currey was asked by The Direct about returning to DC. The actress appreciated the fan castings and said, “That’s a loaded question. That’s been very nice to see people say that. I think getting to be in the universe at all has been such a lottery kind of feeling that I don’t know if I got to come back in any capacity, that’d be wild.”
Currey appeared in the DCEU movie Shazam! and its sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods as Mary Bromfield, also known as Mary Marvel.
Since the announcement of the DCU, there have been many fan speculations surrounding the role of Wonder Woman. Gunn has asserted that he would only hire professionals to play Wonder Woman in the new DCU though the role need not go to someone as famous as Gadot. He also shot down a rumor last year that Elizabeth Debicki had been cast in the role of Wonder Woman for the DCU.
The first chapter of DCU, Gods and Monsters, is set to have a project named Paradise Lost, which will be based on the events in Themyscira before Wonder Woman. In November 2024, the DC co-CEO confirmed on Threads that the project is in “very active development.” However, the studio has not released any concrete information regarding the cast.
