Spider-Man 4’s Sadie Sink Addresses Rumors She’s Playing X-Men’s Jean Grey

Sadie Sink has addressed the recent Jean Grey MCU casting rumors.

Sink, who is known for playing Max Mayfield in Netflix’s Stranger Things series, was recently cast in Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man 4. The movie, which will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker, will be released in United States theaters in 2026.

There’s been no official announcement regarding who Sink is playing in Spider-Man 4; however, there has been a rumor circulating for months, now, that Marvel may be eying her to play the X-Men’s Jean Grey.

Since Sink’s casting in Spider-Man 4, a number of other theories have emerged, suggesting she could also be playing Mary Jane Watson, Firestar, Black Cat, and others.

What did Sadie Sink say about the Jean Grey casting rumors?

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Sink said it was “news to [her]” regarding the Jean Grey casting rumors.

When asked if she had talked to Kevin Feige or anyone else at Marvel about potentially playing Jean Grey, Sink said, “No. I have nothing to say about this. The rumors are really cool, though. It’s an awesome rumor.”

Sink did say, however, that she thought it was “super exciting” to potentially be committed to playing a Marvel character, be it Jean Grey or someone else, for the years to come.

Plot details for Spider-Man 4 remain under wraps at this time. The movie is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously made the MCU movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021. Cretton was also attached to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty for a time; however, he departed the project in November 2023 and, after Jonathan Majors was fired by Marvel, the movie was reworked into Avengers: Doomsday, which is now being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.

Spider-Man 4 will be released in United States theaters on July 31, 2026, from Marvel and Sony.
