Amid several controversies surrounding the upcoming Snow White film, Disney has decided to opt for a more intimate premiere for the movie instead of a larger red-carpet event. Additionally, sources have now claimed that Disney had always envisioned a smaller-scale event for the first official screening of the film.
Live-action Snow White remake reported to have a smaller premiere
According to TheWrap, the premiere of the live-action Snow White remake will take place at Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on March 15. As many as 1,000 guests, including celebrities, filmmakers, and journalists, are on track to grace the occasion with their presence.
Nevertheless, the Snow White premiere will not feature any press on the red carpet. Instead, photographers and an in-house crew will take up the responsibility of covering the entire event.
Disney’s decision to conduct a low-key premiere for Snow White comes in the wake of numerous controversies surrounding the film. Notably, lead actress Rachel Zegler made public comments about changes made to the film’s narrative in order to modernize it, angering many fans of the original.
Additionally, the political views of both Zegler and her co-star Gal Gadot have been scrutinized heavily in the media, with Zegler showing support for Palestinians during recent escalations in the Israel-Palestine conflict, and Gadot speaking out in support of Israel. The film’s decision to portray the Seven Dwarves as digitally rendered magical creatures has also been criticized in the media, with Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage making headlines with his criticism of the decision.
The backlash to the film can be seen in the stats for the movie’s official trailer on YouTube, which has garnered over 1.5 million dislikes against 53,000 likes so far. However, sources told TheWrap that a smaller premiere was always planned for the film as this will be in line with the scale of the premieres for both Inside Out 2 and Moana 2.
Snow White will be released in theaters on March 21, 2025.
