Cujo Netflix Movie Announced Based on Stephen King’s Thriller Novel

The Cujo Netflix movie is now currently in pre-production, after the streamer successfully obtained the rights to Stephen King‘s 1981 horror thriller novel of the same name. Prior to the upcoming Netflix adaptation, the novel was first adapted into a movie in 1983 by director Lewis Teague.

What do we know about the Cujo Netflix movie?

The Cujo Netflix movie will be produced by Roy Lee. At the moment, the streamer is searching for potential writers who would write the remake’s screenplay. The 1983 movie starred Dee Wallace, Danny Pintauro, Daniel Hugh-Kelly, Christopher Stone, Ed Lauter, Billy Jacoby, and more. During its theatrical run, the horror thriller initially received mixed reviews from critics. However, it eventually garnered a cult following over time.

The original novel’s official synopsis reads: “The Cambers’ once-friendly St. Bernard turns into a killer after being bitten by a rabid bat. Donna Trenton’s husband is in New York trying to contain a disastrous ad campaign. Feeling abandoned by her workaholic husband, who is frequently out of town, Donna Trenton embarks on an affair with a local handyman. Left to fend for herself, she takes her ailing Pinto to Joe Cambers’ garage for repairs only to be trapped with her son Tad in the sweltering car by the monstrous dog.”

This marks the latest Stephen King novel that will be receiving a movie adaptation soon. Besides Cujo, King’s dysptopian novels The Running Man and The Long Walk are both being adapted into movies, which are now in production. In addition, HBO is also preparing for the upcoming premiere of its It prequel series Welcome to Derry, which will feature the return of Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Clown.
