Simon Fisher-Becker Passes Away, Harry Potter Actor Was 63

Simon Fisher-Becker has passed away. The Harry Potter actor was 63.

Fisher-Becker is known for playing the Fat Friar, the Hufflepuff House ghost, in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He also played Dorium Maldovar in the fifth and sixth seasons of Doctor Who opposite Matt Smith’s character.

The actor’s death was announced by his husband, Tony, on Facebook on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

“Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband,” the post reads. “I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon Simon passed away. I’ll be keeping this account open for a while. I’m not sure at this point if I’ll be posting again. Thank you.”

Simon’s agent told USA Today in a statement, “Today, I lost not only a client Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend of 15 years standing. I shall never forget the phone call I made to him when he was offered the part of ‘Dorium’ in Dr Who. He had been a fan of the show since he was a child.

“Simon was also a writer, a raconteur and a great public speaker. He helped me out enormously and was always kind, gracious and interested in everyone. My condolences go to his husband Tony, his brother, nieces and nephews and his legion of fans”

In addition to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Doctor Who, Simon Fisher-Becker starred in six episodes of the television series Puppy Love and 16 episodes of the show Waterside. He was also part of the ensamble cast for 2012’s Les Misérables.

Doctor Who actor Dominic G. Martin shared on X, “A legend of Who both in show and in the community. I never got to meet him properly, but friends who worked with him have nothing but lovely things to say. A real testament to his character. Farewell sir.”

ComingSoon sends condolences to Fisher-Becker’s family and friends at this time.
