A prominent cast member of the 2017 MCU feature Spider-Man: Homecoming has hinted at his character’s return in a new interview. Bokeem Woodbine portrayed the supervillain Shocker in Homecoming, serving as the secondary antagonist after Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes / Vulture. However, he has not appeared in the MCU since then.
We may not have seen the last of Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Shocker
Woodbine indicated in a new interview with The Direct that the fans haven’t seen the last of Shocker in the MCU. When asked where Shocker was and where he had gone, Woodbine replied, “That’s a very good question. I’m wondering the same. But I get a feeling it might not be the last time you see the Shocker.”
While this isn’t the direct answer that some fans of the character might have been hoping for, it keeps the hope alive. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Herman Schultz / Shocker is a close associate of Toomes and a salvage worker. After Toomes accidentally kills the first Shocker, Jackson Brice, Schultz inherits Brice’s modified version of Brock Rumlow / Crossbones’s gauntlet. Eventually, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker / Spider-Man defeats Schultz with the help of his friend, Jacob Batalon’s Ned.
In the same interview, Woodbine disclosed that there were discussions about Shocker appearing in his yellow suit from Marvel Comics, which ultimately didn’t end up happening in the movie. He elaborated, “It wasn’t right or appropriate for that first one. But who knows, down the line, [we can get] a little bit closer to the original suit. We never wanted to cover his face because I asked that specifically. And they were like, ‘No, you act with your face. So we want to be able to see you.'”
Created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr,, Herman Schultz / Shocker has been around in the comics since the late ’60s. A member of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, Schultz’s version of Shocker has appeared in animated shows such as Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) and video games like Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018).
Notably, Woodbine received a Primetime Emmy nomination for portraying Mike Milligan in Fargo Season 2. His other roles include Fathead Newman in Ray and Leon Cooley in Saving Grace.
