Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight recently gave an update regarding the release of the upcoming movie starring Cillian Murphy.
The Peaky Blinders film was announced by Netflix in June 2024. Written by Steven Knight, the movie will see Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Thomas Shelby and it will be directed by Tom Harper.
Steven Knight confirms full theatrical release for Peaky Blinders movie
Steven Knight recently sat down for a chat with The Playlist and shared some exciting news regarding its release.
When asked whether Netflix has agreed to provide a theatrical release for the Peaky Blinders movie, Knight said, “Yes. Well, I’ve just made that announcement. So, yes.” He also mentioned that fans are the reason why the movie will open in theaters.
He referred to fans as “passionate” and added, “I really want them to be watching this all together in one building because the communication has all been virtual, which is fine. But I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen.”
Knight opens up on what comes after the Peaky Blinders movie
Steven Knight further disclosed to the outlet that there is more story left to tell after the Peaky Blinders movie.
When asked whether fans can expect the story of Peaky Blinders to continue after the movie in the form of spin-offs, Knight replied, “It’s like, ‘Hey, we got plenty more if we want to tell it.’ We can just keep going; just keep going through time.”
Additionally, Knight stated that he would put out more stories if fans demanded it. He said, “As long as there’s an appetite for it and people want it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?”
According to Variety, in a conversation with BBC Breakfast in February, Knight addressed the same thing and said, “I’m not allowed to announce it, but I’m just saying that the world of ‘Peaky’ will continue.”
