Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has officially joined the cast of the upcoming samurai action thriller Karoshi, according to a recent report from Deadline.
Who joins Cynthia Erivo in the Karoshi cast?
Erivo will star in the film alongside Teo Yoo (Past Lives) and Isabel May (1883), who were previously reported to have joined the film. The film will be directed by Takashi Doscher, who previously directed the 2019 film Only, as well as several episodes of the TV drama Chicago P.D. Doscher will also write the script for the movie.
According to Deadline’s report, Karoshi is described as a “corporate thriller with a samurai twist.” No further details on the film’s plot, nor the roles of Erivo, Yoo, and May, have been made available as of yet. Deadline notes that production on the project is set to begin sometime in June, so more information should be coming soon.
For Erivo, it’ll be yet another big project for the star following her superstar turn in 2024’s Wicked adaptation, which earned her various award nominations, including her second Oscar nom for Best Actress.
Erivo will reprise the role of Elphaba Thropp in the 2025 sequel, Wicked: For Good when it releases on November 21, 2025, and will also star as Jesus in a Hollywood Bowl production of Jesus Christ Superstar this summer. She’s also set to release an upcoming album, for which she recently released the first single, “Replay.”
