The Evel Knievel movie with Leonardo DiCaprio has been given a title.
La La Land and Whiplash director Damien Chazelle is working on a biopic about Evel Knievel. DiCaprio is currently in talks to star in the movie, which is aiming to begin filming this summer, though no deal has been officially signed as of yet.
What is the title of the Evel Knievel movie?
Per Deadline, Chazelle’s movie will reportedly be called Evel Knievel on Tour.
Deadline also reports that Adrien Brody, who just won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Brutalist, is having discussions with Chazelle about potentially starring in the movie as well.
“No formal offer has gone out, and nothing can be done until DiCaprio closes his deal, the sources stressed,” the article notes.
The Hollywood Reporter’s article, however, mentions that Brody could potentially play Shelly Saltman in the movie. Saltman is “the author and sports promoter who was viciously attacked by Knievel by an aluminum bat.”
Born in 1938, Knievel, whose real name was Robert Craig Knievel, was a stunt performer and entertainer best known for performing ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps across a variety of objects. Throughout the 1970s, Knievel was a staple in American culture, as he appeared on a number of TV shows and toys. Knievel died in 2007 at the age of 69 due to issues stemming from a diabetes diagnosis.
Chazelle made his feature film directorial debut in 2009 with Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench. He then went on to direct Whiplash in 2014 and La La Land in 2016 before making the Neil Armstrong biopic, First Man, in 2018. His most recent movie is 2022’s Babylon, while he also worked on 2020’s The Eddy for Netflix.
A release date for Evel Knievel on Tour has not yet been announced by Paramount Pictures.
