Charli XCX is being eyed for a major role in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movies.
Following the success of 2023’s Barbie, Greta Gerwig is now working on an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix. The movie is intended to kickstart a franchise that could spawn as many as seven additional sequels. It was initially reported that Gerwig will direct at least two of these movies, though how involved she will be with the franchise as it moves forward remains to be seen.
There’s been no casting announced for Netflix’s Narnia franchise as of yet; however, Deadline is now reporting that pop star Charli XCX is now in talks to star in at least the first movie.
What role is Charli XCX being eyed for in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movies?
Charli XCX is being considered for the role of Jadis, more commonly referred to as the White Witch, in Gerwig’s Narnia.
The deal has not been finalized. Deadline notes that Charlix XCX is “among” the top choices for the role and that “there have been talks for a little while,” but nothing is official at this time. It’s unclear who else may be in consideration for the part.
Charli XCX did notably contribute a song to the Barbie soundtrack, “Speed Drive.” While she’s primarily known for her music, Charli XCX has voiced characters in animated films such as 2016’s The Angry Birds Movie and 2019’s UglyDolls. She’s also attached to a number of forthcoming live-action projects, including Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, and Aidan Zamiri’s The Moment, the latter of which is an A24 movie based on her own original idea.
Plot details for Gerwig’s Narnia remain under wraps at this time. The movie will be getting a two-week exclusive IMAX run in November 2026. It will then come to Netflix on Christmas.
