Stranger Things Star Joins Godzilla x Kong Sequel Cast

Matthew Modine has been cast in the Godzilla x Kong sequel Monsterverse movie.

Legendary’s Monsterverse officially kicked off in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla. Following a number of sequel movies, crossovers, and television series, another Monsterverse film is now in the works and currently scheduled to be released in 2027.

Who else is starring in the Godzilla x Kong sequel?

Per Deadline, Modine has been tapped to play an undisclosed character in the Godzilla x Kong sequel. He’ll join Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, and Dan Stevens, the latter of whom is reprising his role as Trapper.

Modine is known for playing Dr. Martin Brenner on Netflix’s Stranger Things. He’s starred in movies such as 1985’s Vision Quest, 1988’s Married to the Mob, 1995’s Cutthroat Island, 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, and 2023’s Oppenheimer, among many others.

Speaking with ComingSoon in a recent interview about the 40th anniversary of Vision Quest, Modine said, “When you make a movie, you feel a sense of responsibility of how it can impact people’s lives negatively or positively. And you know, a lot of people say, ‘oh, we should remake Vision Quest.’ And the fact of the matter is you can’t remake it. There are so many things that are inappropriate for today’s audience that were done in that film that Louden would get canceled in today’s world. But that’s, you know, the mistakes that he makes, the things that he does or says that are inappropriate in life are learning tools. They’re experiences.”

Plot details for the Godzilla x Kong sequel remain under wraps at this time. The film is being directed by Grant Sputore, this being his second feature film following 2019’s I Am Mother. The script was written by Dave Callaham.

The Godzilla x Kong sequel movie will be released in United States theaters on March 26, 2027.
