Darth Vader Star Wars Movie Idea Pitched by The Monkey’s Osgood Perkins

Osgood Perkins, known for directing The Monkey, has a unique idea for a Darth Vader Star Wars movie.

Perkins recently directed 2025’s The Monkey, a horror-comedy movie based on a Stephen King short story that stars Theo James and Tatiana Maslany. He also has another movie coming out later this year, Keeper, which will star Maslany and Rossif Sutherland.

What is Osgood Perkins’ idea for a Darth Vader Star Wars movie?

During a Reddit AMA, Perkins was asked if there was a story he wishes he “had the budget or technology to make into a movie.”

Perkins answered, “The collected dreams and nightmares of Darth Vader told as short stories.”

No such project has been announced by Lucasfilm; however, should Perkins ever get the budget and technology to make such a movie, it’d be his first time venturing into big-budget filmmaking. Prior to The Monkey and Keeper, Perkins directed 2015’s The Blackcoat’s Daughter, 2016’s I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, 2020’s Gretel & Hansel, and 2024’s Longlegs.

While Perkins seems to be sticking to the horror genre for now, up next for the Star Wars franchise is the second season of the critically acclaimed Andor series, which stars Diego Luna. Andor Season 2, which will be the final season of the show, will premiere on April 22, 2025, with three episodes. New episodes will continue to drop weekly until the finale airs on May 13, 2025.

A number of other Star Wars projects are also in the works; although, the only one of them that has a release date at this time is Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, which arrives on May 22, 2026.

The Monkey, meanwhile, is still playing in United States theaters courtesy of Neon. Keeper, which is also being released through Neon, hits theaters on October 3, 2025.
