AI Movie Studio Will Make $500,000 Films, Releases First Footage

AI has been making its way into Hollywood. Movies like Civil War and Late Night with the Devil sparked controversy for using AI within the movie and promotions, not to mention how movie extras fear that AI will replace their careers. Now Divergent producer Pouya Shahbazian has launched his own AI movie studio, which promises to release $500,000 films, and released his first footage.

has decided to bring FX up a notch. THR reported the launch of Shahbazian’s new AI movie studio, Staircase Studios AI, which claims it will create “near-studio-quality” movies through the use of the program ForwardMotion. The film, TV, and gaming studio plans to produce AI-generated movies for under $500,000 each and expects to put together 30 of the low-budget movies within the next three to four years.

Shahbazian also released a statement about Staircase Studios’ aim going forward:

“After packaging and selling 150 projects into the studio system over the past 15 years, I’ve borne witness to far too much inefficiency to continue the status quo. Over the past year, I’ve dedicated myself to pairing ethical AI usage with our industry’s most underutilized assets–overlooked stories waiting to be produced from fantastic writers and directors.”

The First Footage of Staircase Studios’ New Movie

Coming soon, Staircase Studios AI’s will make its film debut with The Woman With Red Hair. The drama follows the true story of WWII resistance fighter and assassin Johanna “Hannie” Schaft. Former Pixar exec Teddy Newton is behind the character designs. Emmy-winning animator Alfred Gimeno, story artist for Kung Fu Panda, also came up with the art and designs. Newcomer Maya-Nika Bewley will voice the lead alongside Leander Vyvey, Geoffrey Breton, and Angus Castle-Doughty as part of the voice cast.

Other than The Woman With Red Hair, Staircase Studios is in the pre-production phase of its second feature, Every Living Creature. The animated adventure thriller’s director is Bernie Su (Artificial), with an adapted script by Flicka 2’s J.R. Arellano.

The Woman With Red Hair is expected to have a summer release. Until then, you can watch the first footage of the studio’s introduction and a five-minute preview of the new movie:
