Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum recently addressed whether Avengers: Secret Wars will lead to a reboot of the MCU.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be helmed by returning Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and is expected to debut in theaters in 2027. The sequel is slated to be the final film of the currently ongoing Multiverse saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will then lead into the Mutant saga.
Brad Winderbaum on whether Avengers: Secret Wars will reboot the MCU
Brad Winderbaum recently made an appearance on the Screen Off Script podcast and revealed if there are plans for an MCU reboot after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
Winderbaum said that a reboot was “a very difficult thing to do to a living, breathing fictional universe to just start from scratch, because of all of the fan investment and love for the stories that have come so far.”
When asked by the host whether a reboot was ever discussed while planning, Winderbaum stated that Kevin Feige should be asked that question. He said, “You’re going to have to ask Kevin about the features. I’m on the TV side, but we do navigate the same waters and live in the same universe.”
Moreover, Winderbaum talked about previous attempts at this made by both Marvel and DC and how they have turned out, adding, “It always feels like you can’t really fully reboot anything.” He noted that the classic storylines and characters “always come back around.”
Recently, Joe and Anthony Russo also expressed that they feel the pressure of overseeing Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars in a recent interview. While having a conversation with The Playlist, Joe Russo said, “The job is so all-encompassing and so intense that you can’t really think about, ‘Well, what are people going to feel or think about this?’ All you can think about is, ‘Is this a good story that we want to tell or not? Why are we doing it?’”
