Shrek 5: Universal Theme Park’s Donkey Animatronic Mocks Teaser Trailer’s Animation

Even the Donkey animatronic at the Universal Orlando theme park isn’t impressed with the animation style in the recently released Shrek 5 teaser trailer.

The first Shrek 5 teaser trailer video was released last week. While the footage announces that Zendaya will be voicing Shrek’s daughter, Felicia, in the forthcoming movie, the video quickly proved to be controversial as many fans began complaining on social media about the sequel’s animation style.

More specifically, people are unhappy with the changes that were made to the characters, especially when compared to the earlier Shrek sequels. There have been many comparisons to the first trailer that Paramount released for Sonic the Hedgehog, as a number of fans are now asking Universal and DreamWorks to change the animation before the movie hits theaters in 2026.

What did the Donkey animatronic say about the Shrek 5 teaser trailer?

Captured in a TikTok shared by epicfamilyquests, the Donkey animatronic at Universal Orlando tells a couple of theme park attendees that he looks “rough” in the new teaser trailer.

“Donkey looks homeless,” it continues. “That’s why you always get final approval of all your film and movie rights.”

Plot details for Shrek 5 remain under wraps at this time. In addition to Zendaya, the voice cast of the movie includes Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona. It is currently unclear if Shrek and Fiona’s other children will also appear in the movie or, should they show up, who will be voicing them.

The film is directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, while Brad Ableson is a co-director. Gina Shay and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri serve as producers.

Shrek 5 will be released in United States theaters on December 23, 2026, from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation.
