A Walk to Remember Reboot in Development, Original Producers Issue Statement

Monarch Media has officially acquired the rights to Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling 1999 romance novel A Walk to Remember. This comes after more than two decades since the novel was first adapted into a movie in 2002, which starred Mandy Moore and Shane West. Their memorable performances in the coming-of-age romantic drama served as a breakout moment for each actor.

Following its acquisition, the studio is now developing A Walk to Remember reboot, with original producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry attached to return. This marks Di Novi and Lowry’ latest collaboration, after previously producing 2003’s teen comedy What a Girl Wants. The project will also be produced by Steve Barnett, Alan Powell and Vicky Patel for Monarch Media, alongside Di Novi and Margaret French-Isaac for Di Novi Pictures, and Rose Roserock Films’ Lowry and Patty Reed.

What did the original producers say about the A Walk to Remember reboot?

“I am so grateful to Steve and Monarch Media for giving all of us the opportunity to bring this enduring and inspirational story of faith, hope and love to a new generation, all qualities we need now more than ever,” Di Novi said in a statement

Lowry added, “I’m delighted to be bringing this timeless story to a new generation of moviegoers, and it’s great to be working with Denise again and the Monarch team.

A Walk to Remember follows the story of a rebellious high school senior Landon Carter, who falls in love with the quiet and faith-driven girl Jamie Sullivan. Their romance begins after they both joined the school play, which Landon was forced to participate in as one of his punishments for underage drinking on school grounds. The original movie was directed by Adam Shankman from a screenplay written by Karen Janszen. It also starred Peter Coyote, Daryl Hannah, Lauren German, Paz de la Huerta, Clayne Crawford, and Matt Lutz.
