More information about M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming movie is out, with World of Reel reporting that Alicia Vikander has joined the film’s cast, which now has a working title.
According to World of Reel’s report, Vikander is attached to star in the film opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, who joined the film last month. The project will be Vikander’s first with Shaymalan, and according to World of Reel, the project is currently going forward under the title Remain.
Vikander is best known for her roles in Testament of Youth, Ex Machina, The Danish Girl (for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress), and more. She most recently starred in 2024’s Rumours, and will star next in the sci-fi thriller The Assessment along with Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel, as well as the sci-fi thriller Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin.
What else do we know about M. Night Shyamalan’s next movie?
As first reported by Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider newsletter, Gyllenhaal will star in the next movie from the filmmaking icon. In a surprise addition, a report from Deadline has revealed some of the first details for the upcoming movie.
Namely, that the project will be a “supernatural romantic thriller” based on an original story by both Shyamalan and author Nicholas Sparks, who is best known for works including The Notebook, Dear John, The Last Song, and more, many of which have also been turned into movies.
According to Deadline’s report, Shyamalan and Sparks are co-creating the story, with Shyamalan writing a screenplay, and Sparks writing a novel, based on the same original story. It’s unclear exactly what the film will be about, however, as any plot details or future casting information still remains a mystery for now.
Gyllenhaal’s latest movie was 2024’s Road House, a remake of the 1989 action film, for Amazon, with his next project set to be Guy Ritchie’s upcoming action thriller In the Grey, which he’ll star alongside Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Rosamund Pike, and more. Jake will also star in an upcoming monster movie titled The Bride! which is directed by his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and will also star Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, and many more.
For Shyamalan, it’ll be his next movie following 2024’s Trap, which starred Josh Hartnett and Ariel Donoghue, as well as his daughter, Saleka Night Shyamalan, who also provided original music for the film. Prior to that, he released a film in 2023, the apocalyptic psychological horror Knock at the Cabin, starring Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn, and Rupert Grint.
