Shrek 5 Teaser Trailer: Zendaya Joins Cast, Returning Characters Revealed

A new teaser trailer for Shrek 5 announces that Zendaya has joined the cast of the animated sequel movie.

Shrek 5 is scheduled to hit United States theaters in December 2026. The film will be the first movie in the main Shrek series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After.

What happens in the Shrek 5 teaser trailer?

The Shrek 5 teaser trailer sees the titular ogre, voiced by Mike Myers, and Donkey, voiced by Eddie Murphy, ask Magic Mirror who the fairest of them all is. Magic Mirror responds with “Why, Shrek, of course,” before showing them a handful of Shrek memes. The video then gives a glimpse of Zendaya’s character, who is Shrek’s daughter.

It’s worth noting that, as revealed in 2007’s Shrek the Third, Shrek’s wife Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz) gives birth to triplets, though it’s not clear if their other two children will also have roles in Shrek 5 or who will be voicing them.

Zendaya has voiced characters in animated movies before, such as Chi in 2018’s Duck Duck Goose, Meechee in 2018’s Smallfoot, and Lola Bunny in 2021’s Space Jam: A New Legacy. She’s known for playing Rue in HBO’s Euphoria and MJ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while she’s also been in movies such as 2017’s The Greatest Showman, 2021’s Malcolm & Marie, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.

Plot details for the fifth Shrek movie remain under wraps at this time. The film comes from directors Walt Dohrn (who played Rumplestilskin in Shrek Forever After) and Conrad Vernon (who voices Gingy), along with co-director Brad Ableson. Gina Shay and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri serve as producers.

Shrek 5 will be released in United States theaters on December 23, 2026, from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation.
