A whopping 18 years after the original film, fans are finally getting closer to receiving I Am Legend 2, according to an update provided by Will Smith himself. The 2007 Francis Lawrence directorial follows the journey of Robert Neville, the sole human survivor of a plague that wiped out the entire population of New York City. While I Am Legend was relatively successful at the box office, fans have long been waiting for an update on its sequel. Nevertheless, if Smith’s recent comments are anything to go by, work on I Am Legend 2 is progressing steadily.

In a recent discussion, the Hancock star disclosed that he has had meetings with Michael B. Jordan regarding the much-awaited I Am Legend sequel.
Will Smith also confirmed that Akiva Goldsman, the writer for the project, is currently piecing together the plot of I Am Legend 2. During his recent appearance on xQc’s Twitch live stream, he noted, “Yeah, that’s a real thing. Me and Michael B. Jordan, we sat down for about a week, just went through, you know, character stuff. Akiva Goldsman is the writer, so, he’s putting it together.”
The veteran thespian then opened up about his experience of working with Michael B. Jordan on I Am Legend 2. He stated, “I love to work with that dude. He really gets it. I work with a lot of young actors, and young performers, and it’s like, there’s a difference between actors and movie stars.”
While details regarding the plot of the I Am Legend 2 are currently under wraps, Akiva Goldsman has announced that they will be retconning the ending of the first film for the sequel. In an earlier interview with Collider, the Winter’s Tale director remarked, “We’re sequelizing the alternate cut. The one where Will lives and things didn’t go so well for humanity.” At the time of writing, the project does not have an official release date.
